how do you get rid of ammo?
i have 6 boxes of .17 HMR 2 rounds that i bought by mistake. can you sell it online via ebay or something? is that legal?
i tried taking it back, but i have no receipt and they said 'no way.' it's not that big a deal, but i'm never going to use it, and throwing it away seems stupid. |
Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
Hey, I'm sure someone here will buy it.
You can ship FedEx or UPS........I think UPS requires the ORM-D label. |
Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
Easy, just go buy a .17 HMR rifle AND BLAZE AWAY!!:ARMS1:

Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
Maybe you can sell it at your local range.

Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
i have a .17 hmr, but i was under the impression that you're not supposed to fire hmr 2 through it.
The overall length of the new .17-caliber load is the same as the .22 LR cartridge, although the length of the necked-down .17M2 case is longer than a .22 LR case, to accommodate the smaller .17-caliber bullet. Still, the matching overall length and case-body dimensions of the .17M2 and the .22 LR will allow the .17M2 to function in standard .22 LR magazine configurations of all types, so any existing .22 LR rimfire firearm manufacturer in the world can adapt any of its existing .22 LR gun models to the new load simply by fitting them with .17-caliber barrels with the .17M2 chamber. Yes, that's what I said: any existing .22 LR rimfire firearm--any bolt-action rifle or pistol, any semiautomatic rifle or pistol, any single-shot rifle or pistol, any revolver, any pump-action, any whatever. The only engineering/mechanical tinkering necessary to the conversion for any of these designs is that the recoil-spring timing of some .22 LR semiautomatic mechanisms will need to be adjusted to take account of the .17M2's different time/pressure curve. The transition will be even easier for gunmakers who are already offering product chambered for the .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire (.17 HMR), as the .17M2's bore and rifling specifications are also the same.
http://www.shootingtimes.com/ammunition/17M2/ |
Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
You can't shoot HMR through a HMR-2 gun, or vice-versa. The HMR-2 is a "22LR" length case, and the plain HMR is a "22WMR" magnum-rimfire length case. One won't work in the other at all.
----- What you could do is try selling it on craigslist. Selling guns and ammo is against the rules, but what I've read (online) people will do is write up things with vague descriptions to get around that. Under the "sporting and outdoors" section, you could have an ad offering to sell "6 boxes HMR drill bits, size 2". I'd suggest offering them half-price; that gives them a good chance of getting sold, gets some of your money back and keeps them out of the trash. If ANY buyers email and ask why you're selling them, just say you bought the wrong size and don't want to throw them away. DO NOT mention in the email that they are ammo, or that they're for anything to do with guns at all. Anti-gun people who want to get gun-stuff ads pulled will send emails asking these kinds of questions, and then forward anything incriminating to Craigslist. People who know guns will know what you're offering. -end- |

Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
As stated above, gunbroker is your best bet. FleeBay and Craigs are both anti gun so you shouldn't be doin much business with them anyways. You may also be able to find a specific .17 web site that you could join and try to sell on their members board.

Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
I think there's a little confusion in the cartridge designations.
There is a .17 HMR (Hornady Magnum Rimfire), which is a necked-down .22 Magnum, and there is a .17 HM2 (Hornady Mach 2), which is a necked-down .22 Long Rifle. There is no .17 HMR 2. |
Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
If it is 17m2 i am intrested in it at a low cost
If it is 17hmr i am NOT intrested in it PM me if it is 17m2 And as stated above they are NOT INTERCHANGABLE... I dont know the legalities on a Ammo person to person shipping over state lines?? 6 boxes probably isnt worth the hastle and freight |
Re: how do you get rid of ammo?

ON the otherhand, I think he should 'unload' them on someone (I mean sell......ok, bad joke). |
Re: how do you get rid of ammo?

The cost of shipping them anywhere will probably approach half what the ammo is worth. Since nobody who can legally buy them would pay you more than current retail prices anyway, you are--in effect--stuck with a budget for getting rid of them. -end- |
Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
It's a hard lesson to learn but it must be learned: Whenever you buy the wrong ammo you must then go and buy a rifle to shoot that ammo.

Re: how do you get rid of ammo?
Try to find a local/state gun message board for people in your area. The one for my state has a classified section with ammo and guns posted daily. Either that or put a post on craigs list. You should be able to do a face to face transaction pretty easily.
